On Friday, August 23rd, the Trojan football team faced off against the Tempe Buffaloes at Benson Field. Last year the Trojans took on Tempe on the road and beat them 44-2, so they were looking for another dominating victory this year. Valley came into the first game hungry to start the season with a win after coming up short in last year's semifinal matchup against Paradise Honors. The Trojans crushed the Buffaloes 48-0 in both teams' first game of the season.

Valley came out slow in the first quarter, only scoring one touchdown, but quickly picked up the pace in the second quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points. Trojan quarterback Isaiah Macias (12) led the charge in the first half throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for twenty yards.

Macias reflected on how he felt starting the game at QB, "At first, I was pretty nervous for my first game back in two years, but I was also very excited. The win really got the team fired up and ready for the season."

Going into the locker room, the Trojans were flying high but knew that they needed to keep their foot on the gas. Valley came out hot in the second half, scoring another 20 unanswered points. The second half scores came from juniors Colton Gauthier with a 56-yard receiving touchdown and Jack Aulerich who had a six-yard rushing touchdown.

Junior wide receiver, Colton Gauther, said this about his 56-yard touchdown - "it felt good for my first career varsity touchdown, but it made me hungry for more."

This makes it the third win in three years over The Buffaloes with a total of 161 points for the Trojans and an average score per game of 54 points. Now, after the Trojans dominated Tempe they look to catch a win on the road next week against Florence.
