Brophy, Mountain View set to renew playoff rivalry

Brophy has a chance to get where it wanted to go last year.
Mountain View wants to capture what it had for decades.
Something has to give tonight.
The teams will square off in a 6A semifinal showdown at Central High.
"We're in for a battle," said Brophy coach Jason Jewell.
"Mountain View looks really good. The Goodman kid is the best quarterback we'll have to face this season, and we've seen some good ones."
How they got here
The Toros (11-1) rollled through the regular season averaging 50 points a game, but went somewhat unnoticed until a week 10 win over Red Mountain. Then after a 41-10 quarterfinal victory over Salpointe last week, the Toros appear to be playing as well as anyone.
"This program has such a rich tradition and it's great to be a part of it," said Mountain running back Reese Bodily. "But we still have our work cut out for us."
Brady Goodman leads Mountain View's high octane offense, throwing for 38 touchdowns with 11 more rushing. The 6-4 junior is a legitimate dual threat and is closing in on several school passing records. Talan Arnett and Mikey Sumko are the top targets.

Brophy Deja Vu?
The Broncos (10-2) have been on a mission since losing an overtime heartbreaker in last year's semifinal to Red Mountain. Same field, same playoff round.
"Everything we've worked for this season started the day after that loss," Jewell says.
"It's been our goal to win the championship since."
Brophy is stacked with talent, especially on the offensive side. The Broncos offensive line resembles a division1 team, led by Wisconsin commit Logan Powell. Like Mountain View, Brophy also has a fantastic 1-2 punch at the receiver position with Daylen Sharper and Devin Fitzgerald. Both are sons of former NFL'ers and both have the talent to potentially play on Sunday's.
History 101
This marks the 12th time Mountain View and Brophy will have faced off in the postseason. It will be the fifth semifinal matchup between the teams, the most memorable in 1998 when Brophy snapped Mountain View's 40-game win streak.
The first ever meeting was a 1978 semifinal won by Mountain View. It was was the Toro's first varsity season, led by former NFL'er Todd Shell, who is also Talan Arnett's grandfather.
Brophy's last state title came in 2007 with then head coach Scooter Molander, who led the Broncos to a pair of state championships and built the Broncos into a football power. Molander is now the offensive coordinator at Queen Creek, which is playing in the other 6A semifinal against Centennial, making for a potential reunion with his old school.
