Sunnyside wins Inferno Invitational over Nogales

Sunnyside held off Nogales 45-33 on Wednesday to win the Inferno Invitational held at Sunnyside High School. Pool Play competition was held at Palo Verde and Sunnyside on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In the championship game, Sunnyside built a 15-6 lead with 4:44 left in the second quarter but Nogales went on a 12-2 run with Cecilia Burruel hitting a three-pointer to put the Apaches up 18-17 with 1:26 left in the half. Janae Prichett hit a free throw to tie the half up at 18-18.
Sunnyside led 30-19 after three but Arlette Munoz capped off another run from Nogales with a three with 2:27 left in the game to cut the Blue Devil lead down to 38-33. The Apaches had one more shot to cut the lead down even more but the shot was off target and the Blue Devils closed the game out on a 7-0 run for the 45-33 win.
Mica Mountain beat Flowing Wells 50-46 in the third pace game and Sabino beat Walden Grove 35-26 to win the Silver Bracket.
Nogales (4-1) will host Sunnyside (6-0) in a power-ranking game on Dec. 3.
