The Boyd Baker Small School Tip-Off Classic is named after former AIA Commissioner of Officials for Southern Arizona Dr. Boyd Baker, who also served as an official for several college conferences and he headed the Sports Administration program at the University of Arizona where he taught courses in sports officiating and sports law. Baker passed away in 1999 at the age of 60 in an accident returning home from the NCAA College Softball World Series.
