LION’S DEN TOURNAMENT

Oct. 4-5-: Mountain View Marana

 

St. David went undefeated at the Lion’s Den Invitational hosted by Mountain View Marana including a 2-1 win the championship match over Mountain View. St. David (8-1 in ranking matches) is the No. 2 ranked team in the 1A Conference and the team had victories over 6A Rincon/University, 5A Buena, 5A Flowing Wells, 5A Mountain View and 2A Benson.

The Tigers lost to 1A No. 1 Mogollon at home on Sept. 20. Mogollon is 11-0.

In the championship match, St. David went up 4-0 in the first set but Mountain View responded behind the play of Megan Jacobson who had seven of her 10 kills in the set to go along with a couple of aces and a block. Mountain View went on to take the set 25-20.

St. David went up 7-0 in the second set and the team went on to build a 22-12 lead before taking it 15-16. St. David went up 3-0 in the third set but the set played out to 5-5 but the Tigers went on a 10-4 run to claim the third set 15-9.

Austyn Hatch collected eight kills for St. David and Emma Hart had ten assists. Madeline McCombs had 12 assists for Mountain View and Lacey Hatley had 10.
