Red Mountain races past short handed Williams Field

No one expected a blowout Friday night when Red Mountain traveled to Williams Field.
Least of all Mountain Lion coach Kyle Enders.
Williams Field came into the game with three blowout wins after a last second loss to Brophy Prep. What the Blackhawks didn't have was their starting querterback and leading rusher.
Red Mountain jumped on Williams Field early with turnovers and an efficient offense, rolling to a 52-28 victory in a 6A East Valley contest.
Sophomore Dominick Barjona got the start for Williams Field in place of the injured Kody Guy. Red Mountain defensive back Isaac Haynie intercepted Barjona on the game's first series and the Mountain Lion offense took advantage. Quarterback Simon Lopez threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Schmier four plays later, and Red Mountain never looked back.
Lopez tossed three touchdown passes and led Red Mountain (5-0) to touchdowns on its first seven drives in the first half. The result was a 49-7 lead.

"We took advantage of that early momentum," Red Mountain coach Kyle Enders said.
"That was important for us. We knew their starting quarterback (Kody Guy) probably wasn't playing, but if you'd told me we'd be up 49-7 at halftime I wouldn't have believed it. They're always a great team and well coached."
Overwhelming Early
Barjona finallyh settled down for the Blackhawks (3-2), throwing long touchdown passes to Trey Smith and Trey Foster and displaying an impressive arm. But it was already 28-0 early in the second quarter when the Blackhawks first scored. The Williams Field defense eventually forced Red Mountain into longer, more methodical drives. But with its offense struggling to stay on the field, the Blackhawks defense struggled to stay fresh. Williams Field was also without it's leading rusher Courshawn Hill, who was serving a one game suspension due to an ejection the week prior.
High-Octane Offense
Regardless of the Blackhawk's shorthanded personell, Red Mountain's offense executed with near flawlessness. Five different players scored for the Mountain Lions, including short scoring runs from Tyreke Cornett, Jameson Wade and two from Talon Lamb.

Red Mountain is averaging nearly 50 points a game. That should bode well going into next week's showdown with undefeated Highland. "We were a little more run heavy (tonight), but showing how much we can score by running the ball continues to prove how good our offense really is," said senior Bode Wagner, who caught one of Lopez's three scoring passes.
"I think we have to go into the Highland game with a little different mentality, because it is going to be a lot more challenging than the first five."
