A hearty congratulations to former Westwood High baseball coach Brian Stephenson for landing a new gig as the head coach at Desert Mountain.

Stephenson said early last month: "If I'm back coaching it will be baseball. I'm a baseball guy."

After stints at Yuma High and the last eight at Westwood, Stephenson said he would be picky about pursuing future baseball jobs.

"There were a certain few jobs I'd look in to or consider taking," Stephenson said. "When the Desert Mountain job opened up, that was one of them. I went after it. I'm fired up."

Stephenson has been on the job about a week, but said the coaching part of it doesn't change with a different school.

"I'm going to do things the way I've always done them," Stepehenson said. "We're going to play the game a certain way. Act a certain way. I was looking at the schedule, and we'll be going against a lot of people I'm used do to going up against. Lot of schools in the same section. I'm looking forward to the opportunity."
