Tubby Smith's son, Brian, to coach in Arizona

Brian Smith has been named head boys basketball coach at Rancho Solano Prep (Glendale, Ariz.), according to Richard Obert of the Arizona Republic. He is the son of University of Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith.
Photo by Jann HendrySmith had been coaching at Windermere Prep (Windermere, Fla.) since 2009, but this will be his first head job. He also served as assistant athletic director.
The campus will move to north Scottsdale this summer.
* On the recruiting front, Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) senior guard Amedeo Della Valle has chosen Ohio State over Arizona and Texas A&M, according to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog. The 6-5 native of Italy averaged 12.2 points and 3.0 assists while shooting 54 percent from 3-point range.
Zagoria also reports that the University of South Carolina has received a pledge from Thaddeus Hall of Jefferson (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The 6-foot-5 senior averaged 28.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists during the PSAL playoffs.
