PRESCOTT — Quinn Mickelson was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, Hayden Mickelson recorded a pair of doubles and Coconino’s eight-run rally in the fourth was more than enough to put rival Prescott away in a 15-3 win Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (6-9, 1-2 4A Grand Canyon) had lost six straight contests coming into the weekend affair with Prescott, which was undefeated in region play (3-0) until Coconino came rolling through town.

HOW THEY SCORED
Up 7-2 entering the top of the fourth, Coconino’s offense went to work. Ryker Patten and Jacob Clouse singled to lead off the frame, Quinn Mickelson brought them both home with a double, then later scored when Hayden Mickelson singled to suddenly make it 11-2.
Quinn Mickelson’s second hit of the inning would cap the eight-run rally, making it 15-2 and giving the first baseman four RBIs in the frame.
Hayden Mickelson finished with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Mickelson’s, cousins, are in the three and five-hole for a reason, Coconino head coach Michael Sifling said after being asked about their level of production offensively.
“We know [Quinn] is going to hit the ball hard. And that’s why his cousin hits in the five hole, they’re both cut from the same cloth and produce the same,” Sifling said.
Other standouts include Clouse, who was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base, while Patten was 2 for 2 with two walks, two stolen bases and led the Panthers with four runs scored from the leadoff spot.
PRESCOTT
For the Badgers, Adrian Sanderford was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Brendan Costes, Ivan Schuster and Ryan Elliott all had singles, while Mason Oberan, Lukas Barrett and Luke Tobin scored a run each in the loss.
"We are young but talented and expect to continue to get better," second-year Prescott skipper Barry Tolli said via text to AzPreps365.com. "So far we’ve taken two steps forward and then a step back this season. We’d like to get more consistent at all facets of the game."
Sanderford toed the mound for Prescott, but managed only 2-1/3 innings pitched before being removed having surrendered seven runs.
Tolli added that there weren't many positives from Saturday's game, but there's plenty the club can learn from.
"We’re focused on learning from those mistakes and making the right adjustments so that they do not continue to be a problem," Tolli said. "We did have some pretty good swings and I was happy about some of the adjustments a few of our kids made."
Prescott (8-5, 3-1 4A Grand Canyon) had won three straight prior to Saturday’s loss, earning two wins against Mohave (14-1, March 28; and 11-1 on March 30) and a 8-4 victory over Lee Williams on March 31.
REGION PLAY
The favorite to win the Grand Canyon region may be No. 12-ranked Bradshaw Mountain (15-3, 6-0 4A Grand Canyon), but No. 5-ranked Flagstaff isn’t far behind with a 7-0 start to power point games and of course Coconino, who hopes to gain some momentum and make a run in the end.
“I really would put Bradshaw on top right now,” Sifling said.
Coconino lost to the Bears 10-4 (March 28) and 13-0 (March 29).
“Flagstaff is solid … but I’m not ready to give them credit yet,” Sifling said.
UP NEXT
Coconino is scheduled to travel to Cottonwood and play Mingus on Monday, April 3. Then, the Panthers turn around and host Mingus on April 5, assuming weather doesn’t become an issue.
“It was cool yesterday, we went to our clubhouse and took ground balls on our own field (before traveling to Prescott on Saturday). Fingers crossed we’ll host Mingus on Wednesday,” Sifling said.
First pitch Monday in Cottonwood is set for 3:45 p.m.
Prescott is scheduled to host Lee Williams (6-7, 0-3 4A Grand Canyon) on Monday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
