Sunnyside powers way past Ironwood Ridge 14-4

The Sunnyside Blue Devils put together 14 hits in five innings of play to beat Ironwood Ridge 14-4 on the road Thursday. The offensive explosion included three home runs, a triple and three doubles.
The Blue Devils are now 3-4 in ranking games with the first set of AIA rankings set to be released on Tuesday, March 28 and the Nighthawks fell to 2-6 in a year where 11 seniors graduated, including eight of the top ten players from last year. The Nighthawks also have a new skipper in Tyler Teadt, who replaced Lance Robertson. Robertson returned to Catalina Foothills where he got his coaching start in 2007.
Sunnyside scored five runs in the second inning, five more in the third and four in the fourth to put Ironwood Ridge in a 14-1 hole. A 3-run shot from University of Arizona commit Andrew Cain in the bottom of the fifth cut the score down to 14-4 but the 10-run margin still caused the game to be called via the run-rule.

Sunnyside pitcher Orlando Cobarrubias had two strikeouts for the win but he did mot of his damage at the plate where he went 2-4 with a home run and a double with two RBI. Alonso Martinez went 2-2 with a home run and two RBI, Carlos Munoz had a home run and two RBI, Brandon Moran went 2-3 with a triple and two RBI, Jovanni Toledo went 2-4 with a double, Jordan Mayboca went 2-4 with a double and an RBI, Jose Grijalva went 2-3 with two RBI and Alfredo Encinas had an RBI. Joshua Barrios also saw some action on the mound for the Blue Devils.
Zane Giron got the start for the Nighthawks and he picked up two strikeouts, Seve Sissac, Caleb Jacinto and Lucas Tetreault also pitched in the game. Cain had his home run with three RBI, Keanu Bracamonte had a double and an RBI, Jett Manheimer went 2-3 and Lucas Garcia went 1-2.
The Nighthawks will travel to play Cienega (2-5) on Tuesday and Sunnyside will visit Buena (5-2) on Wednesday.
