No. 6 Bradshaw Mountain soccer gets past Deer Valley in state opener 3-2

PRESCOTT VALLEY — Freshman Nery Martinez scored two goals, senior Jaron Owens added another and the Bradshaw Mountain boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the 4A state playoffs with a 3-2 win over Deer Valley on Thursday night.

The No. 6-seeded Grand Canyon region champs have won 11 of their last 12 contests dating back to Dec. 5, their only blemish a 0-0 double overtime tie against rival Flagstaff on Jan. 27.

The Bears (13-2-1, 5-0-1 4A Grand Canyon) now advance to play No. 3-seeded Barry Goldwater in the state quarterfinals this Saturday, Feb. 18. Official start time is set for 2 p.m.
