The Canyon View varsity softball team defeated Catalina Foothills on Saturday night 12-5 to advance to the 5A State semifinals.
“Our team did really well, we adjusted to the pitcher because she was better than we have been seeing," senior Taylor Jacobs said. "We were aggressive early in the count, and got on her.”
Lead-off hitter Savannah Groshong hit a single to drive in a run along with center fielder Lauren Ervin to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Catalina Foothills took the lead during the second inning, but Canyon View struck again. This time Savannah Groshong and Anise Romo started the rally, laying down back-to-back base bunt hits. Ervin then doubled home both runners.
The Jags stayed in front all the way to the sixth inning and extened the lead to 11-5. Jacobs then struck out the final batter of the game to seal the 12-5 win.
Canyon View will be playing in the semifinals on Thursday, May 12, 2022 @ 5:30 pm vs. Lake Havasu. The semifinals will be held at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
