Mountain Pointe boys basketball coach Brian Fleming resigned from coaching Wednesday after five years leading the Pride and 17 seasons piloting three teams in the Tempe Union High School District.

"This was strictly my decision and on my own," Fleming said. "I met with the kids for about 15 minutes (Wednesday) and told them my intentions. I didn't do it because I didn't want to coach any more. I have my own kids (three daughters) who have been getting the short end of the stick in terms of my time. I decided I needed to spend moretime  with them, and be involved with the things they are involved in like theater and gymnastics."

Fleming's career record is 295-170. He began his head coaching career at Tempe High in the 1994-1995 season. He spent six years there before moving over to McClintock for the next six years. He spent the last five at Mountain Pointe. He was 74-64 at Mountain Pointe, 60-26 the last three seasons that resulted in playoff berths. Fleming's teams reached the final eight in nine of his 17 seasons. The best finish of his teams was in 2004 when McClintock was the 4A runner-up to Saguaro.
