Hamilton pitcher Logan Saloman isn't a flame thrower. Doesn't post gawdy strikeout numbers. He does secure outs.

Saloman was at it again Wednesday afternoon in a start against 6A Premier Region rival Basha. It was vintage Salomon, who tossed a shutout to the tune of a 4-0 triumph over Basha in an errorless game at Hamilton High.

Saloman, a senior, gave up three hits and walked noone in a hurling a complete game. He recorded two strikeouts, the second ended the game and stranded a runner at second who led off the seventh with a double. Saloman retired 10 batters in a row from the third to the seventh before yielding the third hit - a double by Brady Lord. Basha (12-5, 0-3 region) got its other hits from Max Madrid (second inning) and Carter Boone (third inning).

"He doesn't throw hard, but he gets it," Hamilton coach Mike Woods said, meaning his hurler knows how to pitch. "He ends up getting a lot of soft contact. He had a similar outing earlier this year."

The outing referred to by Woods was a 9-1 win over Chaparral three weeks ago. Saloman's line in that one was two hits allowed, no walks and the run in 6 1/3 innings.

Hamilton (12-1, 1-0 region) didn't tear the cover off the ball in Wednesday's win. Check that. Shortstop Roch Cholowsky did launching a towering home run to left in the first inning and ringing RBi double to right in the third off Basha lefty and starter Nate Hoffman. Cholowsky's double was the opening salvo of a two-run inning. Cholowsky scored to cap the inning on a single by Josh Tiedemann.

Hoffman lasted one more inning giving up just one more run despite walking three batters in the fourth. Prince DeBoskie supplied the RBI hitting into a fielder's choice.

Hamilton and Basha finish their two-game region series on Thursday with a 3:45 p.m. start at Basha.
