Saguaro's fans filled their gym on Tuesday for three seniors who wore their home jerseys for the last time in a 72-62 win over American Leadership Academy.

Seniors Kyle Hubbard, Blake Lyle and Tristan Monday made their final appearances at home in the starting line-up. Lyle was the first to make his way across the court with his parents and sister by his side, but his teammate was joined by a different set of supporters.

Hubbard, who put up 11 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and was selected as Player of the Game, was accompanied by his 14 brothers: his teammates.

“My mom is always working, so she couldn’t come tonight," Hubbard said. "These boys are my family and they showed me love.”

The power forward for Saguaro plans on attending preparatory school after graduating to improve his skills and studies in the hope of getting recruited to play college basketball. Hubbard has a passion for electronics and wishes to pursue a major in computer science.

Lyle intends to go to Arizona State or University of Arizona and pursue business and other basketball opportunities. Monday scored eight points and played a key role on the defensive end, snagging seven crucial rebounds when needed the most.

The captain spent most of the basketball preseason on the football field, leading Saguaro to the Open Division State championship. Prior to the season, Monday wasn’t sure he wanted to play basketball.

“It was a really tough decision,” Monday said. “I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I thought it would be a good way to stay in shape, and I’m glad I did it to finish out my senior season.”

Monday will attend the University of Wisconsin in the fall on a full ride football scholarship as an offensive lineman.

No one is prouder of the team’s efforts than Saguaro head coach Lucas Ramirez.

“There were a lot of learning experiences for us this year,” said Ramirez, who led the program to the Desert Sky Region Championship in his first year as head coach.

Like a lot of coaches, Ramirez cherishes the bonds he forms with his players.

“You can always find another guy that can shoot the ball or get the rebound, but the relationships that you build throughout the process, that's what you appreciate,” Ramirez said. “When you're a part of this, you're a part of this for life. If you do it right, these relationships will last forever.”
