Tucson High wins Brandon Bean Invitational

Tucson High (5-0) beat Sunnyside 1-0 to win the boy’s championship on Saturday. Ismael Ruiz scored on a penalty kick in the 28th minute in a match where the Badgers dominated the flow in the first half and the Blue Devils controlled possession in the second half at the invitational named for a former Salpointe player who passed away on 1992 after an on-field collision at a soccer scrimmage.

Ruiz scored eight goals at the invite and he earned Field Player of the Tournament for his efforts in an award given in honor former Salpointe player Laura Kea who died in an auto accident on her way to a soccer tournament. Badger goalie Alex Oleta Cristerna was named Keeper of the Tournament.
Sunnyside (5-1) will host Casa Grande (1-0) om Tuesday and Tucson will open up regular season play at Sunnyside on Dec. 9.
