D-II Track & Field: North Canyon girls make it four in a row; Casteel boys win second championship

DIVISION II GIRLS

The North Canyon girls captured their fourth state team championship in a row (2020 was canceled) after holding off Williams Field 90 to 80 at the Division II state championships held at Perry High School this past week.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Agua Fria freshman sprinter Stacey Onyepunuka won the 200 and 400 meter runs.

Catalina Foothills sophomore Taylor McCue won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

Cactus Shadows sophomore Gloriah Hussey won the high jump and the triple jump.

DIVISION II BOYS

Casteel won the boys state title for the first time since moving up to Division III. The program brought home a championship competing in D-III in 2018 and the team took second in in D-II in 2019.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Casteel senior Dayton Carlson swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs one month after he was named the 2021 Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Centennial senior Dominick Brister brought home the 100 and 200 meter runs.

Marana Mountain View junior Sam Halaufia won the discus and the shot put.
