Division III State Golf Championships

May 10-11: OMNI Tucson National Sonoran Course

Valley Christian won six of the last seven team championships, including the last two in 2018 and 2019, but the Trojans will have some work to do this spring with Scottsdale Prep clinging to a 4-stroke lead after the first round of the D-III state championships held at the OMNI Tucson National.

Par on the Sonoran Course is 280 for teams and 70 for individuals and the Spartans of Scottsdale Prep are fueled by five golfers in the top 20 after the first round including three in the top six. Adam Miller leads the Spartans with a 2-over-par 72 but he, along with Valley Christian standout Nate Walker, are one stroke behind Fountain Hills standout Ben Danko.

There are no repeat champions in the field this spring but Danko took 29th in 2020. Former Valley Christian standout James Mackie took home the top spot that year and current Scottsdale Prep standout Davis Johnson came in second. Johnson is three strokes back this spring heading into the second round on Tuesday.

Valley Christian has four golfers in the top 20 and three in the top nine to help keep within striking distance of Scottsdale Prep.

The field will tee of on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. on hole one of the Sonoran Course.
