Chandler girls roll on with MLK Classic win over Dobson

A missing ingredient for Chandler when it met Dobson in December and lost by three was Simone Westbrook. Westbrook wasn't absent this time as Dobson found out.
Westbrook piled up 14 point of her team-high 28 points in the third period to to key the pull-away stanza in Chandler's 73-59 victory over Dobson Mondayat the ninth annual Martin Luther King Basketball Classic at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
Westbrook, who missed several early games due to disciplinary reasons, added a game-high 11 rebounds three assists and five steals. Chandler got back to what it does best in the third period after leading narrowly 32-29 at hafltime. The Wolves pressure forced turnovers and several fastbreak and transition chances that pushed their lead back to double digits.
Chandler coach Zon Thompson was pleased to get the win, but not with the manner his team played.
"A very sloppy gamelast game to this one," Thompson said. "A lot of mental mistakes."
Chandler senior point guard Dezirae Eias continued her season-long steady play. Elias added 20 points, four steals and four assists. She scored 30 when Chandler lost to Dobson earlier, 78-75. Chandler improved to 14-4 overall and 7-4 in power-point games. Chandler has back-to-back quality wins over Mesa Mountain View and Dobons and a tough loss to defending state champion St. Mary's.
Dobson (16-5, 9-2 ppg), led by a 10-point second-quarter from junior Katherine Hamilton, sliced a 27-16 deficit midway through the period to 32-29 at intermission. Hamilton finished with a game-high 29 points and led the Mustangs with eight rebounds.
