Salpointe improved to 11-1 on the year after run-ruling Sahuaro 11-1 in five innings Friday night at home. The Lancers came in ranked No. 4 in the 4A Conference and the Cougars are now 6-7 with a No. 24 ranking heading into the weekend.

Sahuaro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Vinnie Lazos walked to start the game off. He stole second and then third base where Gamaliel Vasquez doubled him home after Dawson McHughes picked up two strikeouts. It was the only hit McHughes would give up and he went on for the win with nine strikeouts from the hill.

The Lancers scored in every inning with Mason White coming up big by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Omar Monreal went 2-2 with an RBI and a triple, RJ Molina went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI and Sergio Perez went 2-3 with two RBI including the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth.

Dom Phillips got the start for Cougars and Jaden Majuta took over in the third inning.

Sahuaro hosts Pueblo (3-8) on Tuesday and Salpointe will play Cholla (0-11) at home on the same night before the team begins a difficult stretch with No. 2 Canyon del Oro (11-1), No. 9 Nogales (8-3), No.1 Vista Grande (11-0) on the schedule. Nogales competes in the 5A Conference.
