“It means everything to us.” These were the words of Tempe Prep head football coach Larry Cain, when asked what the school’s new athletic training facility will mean to his team and other athletes on campus.

It's been a long time coming for the Knights. The school recently broke ground on a new $7.2 million renovation. With this renovation comes the addition of a new state of the art weight room and training facility for its athletes to continue to grow their game.

This is a major upgrade for the entire athletic department since the school has never had a stable place for the athletes to get better and stronger. “The old facility looked like a scene from Rocky” said Athletic Director Doug Seagrave.

Both Seagrave and Cain said their old facility with a bunch of weights outside wasn’t exactly what their athletes needed. Especially, when the Arizona heat begins to reach staggering levels.

With the new training facility being indoors, “it will be nice to not have to lift at 5 a.m. or late at night,” according to Cain.

In regards to bringing new athletes to Tempe Prep, Cain believes that this facility along with the rest of the school’s renovation, will potentially be “the cherry on top.”

Seagrave and Cain acknowledged that former athletes at the school had to “make the most with the least,” when it came to the type of training equipment they had at their disposal. The new facility will have all the core equipment necessary for the athletes to improve and will be paid for with donations.

This entire renovation has the motto “Advance the Mission” and with the attention to detail that is seen being put into this project there is a real sense of how much the staff wants to see their young students and athletes succeed.

Seagrave said, “The level of commitment determines your level of success” and from the looks of it he, along with his fellow staff members, are committed to restoring Tempe Prep back to its former glory.
