Arizona schools go 7-11 in Day 1 of NIke TOC girls tourney

Seven Arizona schools won and 11 lost Monday at the first day of the 16th annual NIke Tournament of Champions girls basketball event in Chandler and Gilbert.
Most of Arizona's winners on Monday were teams with perennial pedigrees -- St. Mary's, Pinnacle, Mesa Mountain View and Chandler. Also coming up victorious were Xavier, Desert Vista and Basha. St. Mary's, Pinnacle, Chandler and Mountain View were either state champs, state runners-up or semifinalists last season. Xavier also was a state semifinalist last year.
Here are the sites, times and opponents for Tuesday's NIke TOC games involving Arizona's seven winners from Monday:
Noon -- St. Mary's vs. Good Counsel (Olney, Md) at Hamilton HS; Chandler vs. Chaminade Prep (West Hills, Calif.) at San Tan JHS; 1:30 p.m. - Basha vs. Fortuna (Calif). at Chandler HS; Desert Vista vs. Cleveland (Rio Rancho, N.M.) at Willis JHS; 3 p.m. - Mesa Mountain View vs. Monarch (Louisville, Colo.) at Basha HS; 6 p.m. - Pinnacle vs.Pocatello Highland at Basha; Xavier vs. San Diego Mater Dei at Willis JHS.
