Mountain Pointe endured one bad stretch in Saturday night's final of the Horizon Invitational boys basketball tournament, but all it cost the Pride was the lead for a few seconds. The good thing was that stretch took place in the third period.

Mountain Pointe saw its 32-21 halftime lead melt in the third to a one-point deficit, but the Pride bounced back in the third and returned to form in the fourth in notching a 70-53 win over Horizon.

Mountain Pointe improved to 8-0 on the season. The Pride got a game-high 20 points from tournament most valuable player Khari Holloway. Holloway scored eight of his points in the final period. Three of Holloway's teammates also scored in double figures -- Jordan Bellamy (13) and Jalen Brown and Austin Witherill (11 apiece). Witherill sank three 3-pointers, all in the second half. Brown was also chosen to the all-tournament team.

Horizon was led by Eric Lewis with 13 points and Kye de Laveaga with 11. Lewis and de Laveaga were also selected to the all-tournament team. Both schools continue play after Christmas in the VisitMesa.com Challenge at Mesa Mountain View High School.
