Chaparral crowned D-I boys, girls swim champs

Chaparral's girls won a seventh straight swim and dive title Friday while the boys team took advantage of Brophy Prep's absence to prevail in a tight chase with Desert Vista at Skyline Aquatic Center.

Chaparral's girls totaled 452.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Xavier Prep (267). Rounding out the top five were Red Mountain (208), Mountain View (156) and Desert Vista (139).

Chaparral's boys, without winning an individual event or a relay, prevailed with 302 points and runner-up Desert Vista posted 285. The next three spots went to Boulder Creek (171.5), Pinnacle (157.5) and Sunnyslope (156.5). Chaparral's boys finished third in each of the three relays to accumulate solid points and used depth in most every event in Brophy-like fashion in taking the top trophy.

Chaparral's girls were led by seniors Ashley Strouse and Greer Pattison. Strouse finished her four-year prep career the 200 free and 500 free the maximum four times .Strouse swam on two winning relay teams each year of her career. Pattison won the 50 free three times, including this year's title and won the 100 back three times. Pattison finished second in the 100 back on Friday. Pattison, like Strouse, was part of two winnning relay teams each year.

Other event winners in  D-I girls meet: Millennium's Kennedy Noble won the 200 IM and 100 back; Chaparral's Morgan Brophy won the 100 butterfly; Sandra Day O'Connor's Caelle Armijo won the 100 free Mountain View's Emma Becker nabbed the 100 breast and Desert Ridge's Alexandra Roberston prevailed in diving. Chaparral won all three relays 200 and 400 free and 200 medley.

Event winners from D-I boys meet: Sunnyslope's Tate Bahti (200 IM, 100 breast); Perry's Evan Nail, (200 free); Boulder Creek's Rick Popper (50 free, 100 free); Skyline's Daniel Knapp (diving); Desert Ridge's Essias Smith (100 butterfly); Desert Vista's Jack Luken (500 free) and Cibola's Ayden Dusek (100 back). Desert Vista won the 200 free and 400 free relays and Pinnacle won the 200 medley relay.
