The Canyon View varsity football team had their first ever home game on Saturday night at Jaguar Stadium and walked away with a 12-point win, 26-14. Even though it’s not the ideal picture everyone is used to due to COVID restrictions, there was still a good crowd as well as a halftime show and pep band.
"I felt good going into Saturday’s game. We had a great week of practice and it showed come game time. It was an awesome feeling to be at home with the home crowd cheering," coach Scott Harris said.
The Jaguars got on the board first on a touchdown by sophomore wide receiver Anthony Munoz-Ramirez and junior running back Syles Le scored later in the half. The rest of the first half was back and forth.
Canyon View struggled offensively to start the second half with a number of incomplete passes and the Jaguars were behind heading into the final quarter.
The Jaguar defense came up with two big interceptions late in the game and sophomore linebacker Keegan Landis returned a one for a touchdown to put the game away.
"This game was for everyone at Canyon View, our students, our staff and our community," coach Harris said. "I am so proud of our team to continue to fight through what has been a crazy season. I am so fortunate that I get to coach a great group of student athletes with some great coaches."
Canyon View will return home in a recently scheduled game against Basha High School on Friday, October 30.
