Xavier Prep girls golf outlasted Sandra Day O'Connor and Chandler in their three-team match at Camelback Golf Club on Wednesday.
The Gators totaled 152 strokes between their top four players, while Sandra Day O'Connor came in at 171 and Chandler totaled 217.
Xavier Prep senior Lauren Garcia led the way, posting a score of -1 in the nine-hole match.
Other medalists in the match included Mary Beth Doss (+2) and Ivy Song (+3).
Garcia was pleased with her performance to end the final regular season of her high school golf career.
“I’m going to miss playing with my teammates,” Garcia said. “I will be looking back on the memories we’ve shared.”
With this being the last match of the regular season, the Gators’ top priority is to prepare for the state tournament at Omni Tucson National in the final week of October
Sister Lynn Winsor said the girls will be practicing a lot these next few weeks on their mental and physical game
“My mental game will be my top priority,” Xavier Prep senior Mary Beth Doss said. “Especially for state and college golf in the future.”
Every year the team has guest speakers including Sun Devil Athletics Psychologist Debra Crews to speak to the girls about the mental aspect of golf and how to play well in big tournaments.
“We will be focusing on our short game,” Sister Winsor said. “Whoever has a good short game is the most successful on the course.”
The next event that the Gators will take part in is the State Preview Invitational at Aquila Golf Course on October 20th.
