Former Red Mountain FB star strikes NFL paydirt with return

Former Red Mountain High School standout  NIck Miller got a second chance Sunday with the St. Louis Rams and made the most of it.

Miller returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter of the Rams game against the Arizona Cardinals. Miller, who played last season with Oakland and was with St. Louis earlier this year, scampered untouched on his first opportunity returning punts. Miller was released by St. Louis two weeks ago and re-signed on Thanksgiving Day. The lost to Arizona, 23-20.

Miller played at Red Mountain in 2003-2004 as a receiver, defensive back and return specialist. He had 656 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his senior season. He also intercepted five passes and helped the Mountain Lions to an East Valley region championship.

He played at Scottsdale Community College and left to finish his college career at Southern Utah (2007-2008). Miller set an SUU record with 41 kickoff returns for 914 yards. He also finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards, with 35 catches for 435 yards and a touchdown. As a senior in 2008, Miller was named Great West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and caught 55 passes for 763 yards and three touchdowns.
