2A North Region hoops: Alchesay, St. Johns nail down regional championships

2A NORTH REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
BOYS
CHAMPIONSHIP
ALCHESAY 78, VALLEY SANDERS 65
The Alchesay Falcons outlasted the Valley Sanders Pirates, 78-65, for the 2A North Regional Tournament boys' championship on Saturday in the Round Valley Dome.
Enroute to earning the title, Alchesay captured three victories in the regional tournament.
Alchesay knocked off Greyhills Academy Knights, 99-37, in its first game of the tournament. The Falcons posted an 81-35 win over the Hopi Bruins in the semifinals.
Valley Sanders chalked up an 84-42 win over the Pinon Eagles in an opening round victory. In an exciting finish, the Pirates topped St. John's, 57-52, in the semifinals.
For third place, St. John's stopped Hopi, 63-50, in the regional tournament.
2A NORTH REGIONAL TOURNMENT
GIRLS
CHAMPIONSHIP
ST. JOHN'S 52, ALCHESAY 46
In an hard-earned victory, St. John's defeated Alchesay, 52-46, for the girls' 2A North Regional Tournament championship in Round Valley Dome on Saturday.
To reach the regional tournament championship, St. John's beat Greyhills Academy, 54-30, in the opening round. St. John's posted a 48-38 victory over Hopi in the semifinals.
Alchesay defeated Pinon, 63-24, in the first round of the regional tournament. The Lady Falcons knocked off Many Farms Lady Lobos, 56-22, in the Final Four.
Many Farms captured the regional tournament third place game, 62-54, over Hopi.
