Girls, boys hoops: Window Rock girls, Holbrook boys take home victories

GIRLS
WINDOW ROCK 43, HOLBROOK 34
The Window Rock Lady Scouts improved its overall season record to 9-2, after defeating the Holbrook Roadrunners, 43-34, in a freedom girl's basketball game in Holbrook on Friday night.
Window Rock won its second straight road game in a row. On Thursday night, the Lady Scouts beat Hopi on the Lady Bruins' home floor.
Holbrook dropped to 5-4 overall with the loss.
Holbrook led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter. Window Rock battled back in the second period. The Lady Scouts outscored the Roadrunners, 15-5, for a 22-13 halftime advantage.
The Roadrunners canned 11 points to the Lady Scouts' nine points in the third quarter. Window Rock continued to lead, 31-24. The Lady Scouts chalked up a nine-point win, outscoring the Roarunners, 12-10, in the fourth stanza.
Window Rock's Rachael Smiley canned 11 points, followed by Jana Solee with 10 points and Bayle Talkalai with eight points.
Holbrook's Madison Chappell led all scorers, pouring in 20 points.
"(Our) ball movement was good in the first half and second half," Window Rock head coach Sharon Toadecheenie said. "(It was) much better at the end of the fourth quarter. (We had) better shot selection and better defense. (I) used bench depth to seal the win."
BOYS
HOLBROOK 55, WINDOW ROCK 43
Holbrook utilized a strong shooting third quarter to post a 55-43 boy's freedom game victory over Window Rock on Friday night in Holbrook.
The Roadrunners outscored the Scouts, 18-8, in the third quarter to take a commanding 44-28 advantage at the end of the third period.
Holbrook held a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Roarunners and the Scouts both scored 14 points apiece in the second quarter. Holbrook le, 26-20, at halftime.
Window Rock netted 15 points and Holbrook canned 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Cauy Silversmith tallied 14 points to pace Window Rock.
"We just couldn't get our offense going tonight," said Window Rock head coach Tom Bizardi. "We'll have time over the break to work on our transition offense and half court offense. Defensively, we just need to work on stopping penetration. There is always something to improve on overall."
Holbrook improved to 9-4 overall. Window Rock dropped to 9-4 overall. Window Rock entertains the Winslow Bulldogs on December 28 in the Events Center in Fort Defiance for its next game.at 7:30 p.m.
