Gilbert Christian senior Landyn Lovelady, unbeknownest to her, registered her 1,000th career point on Dec. 2 in the Lady Knights' victory over Cicero Prep. In doing so she became part of a family legacy in the sport.

Landyn's journey to 1,000 points covered two states (Washington and Arizona), three coaches Including her father, Mark, for a season at Life Christian Academy in Tacoma, Wash. The feat has landed her in good company with some other family members -- older brother, Luke, her mother, Jennifer, an aunt and a handful of cousins. Her father, currently the principal at Gilbert Christian,  coached 25 years in in Washington and is a Hall of Fame coach in that state.

Landyn tallied 15 points in the Cicero game to pass the 1,000-point mark. Gilbert Christian won seven of its first eight games, including a runner-up finish in the Cobre Valley Invite, won by Estrella Foothills. Landyn's accomplishment was celebrated prior to Monday night's opening tip with Scottsdale Christian at Gilbert Christian. Landyn added icing to the day netting 20 points in the team's 49-44 win over Scottsdale Christian.

Landyn was busy last year playing basketball and soccer in the winter. She led Gilbert Christian in scoring in basketball and was second in scoring for the soccer team. She also has competed in track two years in Washington and one in Arizona competing as a hurdler. Last year she finished fourth at state in the 300 hurdles in D-III.
