PAGE 55, WINSLOW 40

Miqueda Taliman canned 14 points and Camryn Nockideneh added 13 points to pace the Page Lady Sand Devils to a 55-40 victory over the Winslow Lady Bulldogs in a 3A freedom game on Tuesday night.

"Both teams played hard," said Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan. "Page rebounded well and capitalized on second shot opportunities."

Page took a 10-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Winslow cut Page's lead to three points, 20-17, after outscoring the Lady Sand Devils, 11-10, in the second quarter.

Winslow netted nine points to Page's six points in the second quarter. Page held a 36-32 lead at the end of the third quarter. Page had a hot hand in the fourth quarter. The Lady Sand Devils outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 19-8, during the fourth quarter.

Kylie Begay netted 13 points and Sierra Singer poured in 12 points for Winslow.

KAYENTA MONUMENT VALLEY 63, HOPI 47

Kayenta Monument Valley Lady Mustangs raced out to an 18-8 first quarter lead to post a 63-47 win over the Hopi Lady Bruins in a non-regionj freedom game on Tuesday night.

Hopi outscored Kayenta Monument Valley, 15-12, cutting the Lady Mustangs' advantage to seven points, 30-23, at halftime.

The Lady Mustangs tallied 17 points to Hopi's 10 points. The Lady Mustangs held a 47-33 lead at the end of the third frame. Kayenta Monument Valley tallied 16 points, while the Lady Bruins scored 14 points in the fourth period.

Hopi's top scorer was Taylor Antone with 14 points.

Kayenta Monument Valley's sophomore guard Sheridan Curley poured in 22 points and Angel Holiday tallied 10 points.

"We're young, only two seniors, so it's going to take us some time to get familiar with the offense and defense, that will help us be our most successful," said Kayenta Monument Valley head coach Jason Franklin. "Our youth shows the most when the ball is in our possession. We've had 30 turnovers in each of our first two games. They aren't pressure turnovers. They're careless, throwing the bsll away, unforced turnovers. As a team, we're still learning how to 'value the basketball'. Our coaching staff is trying to remind our girls that we can't score without the ball, so when we have it, we need to learn how to capitalize. Our defensive pressure, however, has forced more than 40 turnovers in each game."

KAYENTA MONUMENT VALLEY 79, HOPI 32

The Kayenta Monument Valley Mustangs overwhelmed the Hopi Bruins in a non-region freedom game on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs took a 32-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kayenta Monument Valley outscored Hopi, 24-21, in the second quarter for a 56-25 halftime lead.

The Mustangs took a 75-30 advantage at the end of the third quarter, after outscoring the Bruins, 19-5.  The Mustangs put the game in the books in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bruins, 4-2.

Andrew Sheppard led the Mustangs with 15 points and Latrell Maloney added 11 points.

BOYS

CHINLE 84, PINON 35

Cooper Burbank, Malik Bahe and Curtis Begay combined fo 61 points to lead the Chinle Wildcats to an 84-35 victory over the Pinon Eagles on Tuesday night.

Chinle raced out to a commanding 30-7 first quarter lead. The Wildcats poured in 23 points to the Eagles' 15 points in the second quarter. Chinle held a 53-22 halftime advantage.

Chinle extended its lead to 77-32 at the end of the third quartert, after the Wildcats outscored the Eagles, 24-10. The Wildcats outscored the Eagles, 7-3, in the fourth quarter.

Christian Bert tallied 13 points to lead Pinon.

"Offensively, we moved a lot better that led us to good shots," said Chinle head coach Raul Mendoza. "We need to continue to work on doing a better job with our help side on defense. Overall, we played better as a group."
