Quickness, experience and depth are the keys for the Window Rock Lady Scouts this year.

The Lady Scouts return four players, including two starters from last year's Lady Scouts squad that finished 13-16 overall and 2-8 in 3A North Region last year.

Window Rock head coach Sharon Toadecheenie returns for her third year.

The Lady Scouts earned a 3A state tournamrnt berth last year. In round one of the state tournament, Window Rock defeated Show Low, 67-45. The Lady Scouts advanced into the state tournament second round, eliminating Yuma Catholic, 64-47. Window Rock advanced into the state tournament quarterfinals, and was eliminated by Winslow, 59-56.

Two starters returning for the Lady Scouts are senior strong guard/guard Jana Solee andsenior strong guard/forward Bayle Talkalai.

Solee earned First Team 3A North All-Region and First Team All-State last year. Talkalai was selected Honorable Mention 3A North All-Region last year.

Joining Solee and Talkalai as returning players are senior power forward Rachael Smiley and junior strong guard/point guard Shinezbi Teller.

Toadecheenie said the Lady Scouts need to work on its defense and communicate on the floor better.

"(Our) high expectation (is to advance to the) Final Four and (win state) title," Toadecheenie said. "To do that, we will need to play smart defensive schemes and communicate more."

Winsow Rock opens its regular season thi Tuesday, entertaining the Many Farms Lady Lobos in a freedom game at Window Rock Events Center in Fort Defiance at 6 p.m.
