Mountain View Marana went 5-1 to capture the championship of the 38th Annual Flowing Wells Invitational held this past Friday and Saturday. The Mountain Lions fell to Pusch Ridge 2-1 during pool play on Friday but the team was able to rally on Saturday to meet Flowing Wells in the championship match.

Flowing Wells went undefeated in pool play and the Caballeros upset Pusch Ridge in the semifinal round on Saturday to set up the final match with Mountain View.

The two teams played to a 14-14 tie in the first championship set but Jaelin Reeb came through with three assists to help Mountain View build a 19-15 lead. Not to be undone, Lilly Molina found three of her own hitters to close the gap to 22-20 but Jasmine Coleman-Dunlap put down two of her game-high 14 kills to help put Flowing Wells away, 25-22, in the first set.

Reeb and Molina put up 19 assists each, and it looked like Mountain View was going to run away with the second set, but Molina came through to help change a 16-10 deficit to a 19-19 tie. Coleman-Dunlap had her 14 kills but Molina rotated between Arianna Mack and Michelle Herren down the stretch and each of her junior targets finished with seven kills.

Mountain View went back up 22-20 but the Caballeros scored three straight points to go up 23-22 only to give the lead back on service error. Mountain View went up 24-23 and then Reed found Macey Crook for the championship point.

Pusch Ridge beat Walden Grove to take third place and Desert Christian beat Tombstone to win the Blue Bracket.

Mountain View is 1-3 in power-ranking matches and the team will travel to play at Higley (1-3) on Tuesday and Flowing Wells (2-2) is headed to Canyon del Oro (4-0) on the same night.
