Separated by conference affiliation for more than a decade but only three miles in distance, Marcos de Niza and McClintock hooked up Thursday night  in a Divsion II football clash.

Other than the first 20 seconds it was as expected -- all Marcos de Niza.

With a healthy dose of wide out Paul Elvira, running backs Mauriece Lee and Josh Kirkwood and quarterback Tommy Thornton in the first half, the host Padres rolled to a 63-6 victory over the Chargers at Vic Sanchez Stadium.

Lee ran for two first-half touchdowns, Kirkwood scored once in each half and Elvira scored three TDs. Two of those came on receptions and the other on a run. Elvira caught eight passes for 168 yards and Thornton passed for 329 yards and three TDs. Josh Eckley caught a TD pass and threw a TD pass as the Padres back-up quarterback.

McClintock actually led 6-0 with Joseph Wells returning the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. There was one other special team's touchdown in the game. It was scored in the third period by Marcos de Niza's Brain Drew Jr. on a punt return. Drew's father, Brian, was a McClintock standout in 1989 and state player of the year in 1989. That was McCllintock's last state title.

The meeting Thursday was the first between the schools since 2000 when they competed in the 5A Central Region. The following year McClintock dropped down to 4A andMarcos de Niza remained in 5A.
