They haven't locked up playoff spots, but barring total collapse the final three weeks at least seven southern Arizona schools in Division I, II and III will be football-posteason bound the first Friday in November.
The teams with the most promising shots are in Divisiion II and Division IIII. The Division II triumvirate of Cienega (7-0), Salponte (6-1) and Ironwood Ridge (6-1) with just one loss or less have more margin for error. Cienega shouldn't have any trouble winning out. Salpointe and Ironwood Ridge meet the final game of the regular season. Salpointe also plays unbeaten Division III Nogales (this week), but should handle the Apaches. None of the three should be worse than 8-2 when the season ends.
Nogales (7-0) and Sabino (6-1) are the top Division III kingpins down south. Nogales figures to have a tough time with Salpointe this week, but should win out (Cholla and Pueblo). Sabino, with its lone loss coming to D-II Cienega, has one more tough game. The Bobcats close with D-II Sahuaro, which is on the bubble battling for a berth in its division.
The Division I trio of Cibola (6-1), Tucson (5-2) and Sunnyside (5-2) will be seeing one another down the stretch. Cibola has a couple tough games, but likely the best chance of the three to reach the playoffs since it currently is in line for an automatic berth from Section I. Cibola visits Sunnyside this week and faces its best Yuma-area test the following week against Gila Ridge. Tucson still must face hard-charging D-II Canyon del Oro, Sunnyside and Flowing Wells. The Badgers need two of those three games. Sunnyside, like Tucson, needs at least two of its final three games. Since two are with Cibola and Tucson, wins in those would be huge. Those three are currently ranked 9 through 13 in the Division I power-rankings. Tucson and Sunnyside are currenly seeking one of the seven at-large berths.
