Baseball: Chinle, Page split 3A North Region twinbill

Chinle and Page split a 3A North Region baseball doubleheader on the Wildcats' home field on Saturday.

Chinle won the first game, 8-0. Page bounced back to capture the nightcap, 4-2.

With the split, Chinle is 6-2. The Wildcats will be on the road on Tuesday, facing the Snowflake Lobos in a freedom game at 3:30 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time).

Page evened its record at 6-6. Page will be at Blue Ridge for a freedom doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

First game

Chinle 8, Page 0

Chinle starting pitcher Jayden Guy was the winning pitcher in the first game. Guy threw four innings. He allowed three hits and struckout six batters. Myren Hoskie was summoned to pitch the final three innings in relief. Hoskie did not allow any hits, while fanning three batters.

Chinle head coach Don Kimbrough said pitchers Jayden Guy and Myren Hoskie kept Page batters off balance throughout the game.

"We got solid pitching from Jayden (Guy) and Myren (Hoskie), Kimbrough said. "The defense did a good job, backing up our pitchers. Offensively, the kids made contact, put the ball in play and we scored runs. It was a good win for us."

Chinle tallied the game's first run in the first inning. Jake Guy reached firsr base on an error. Jayden Guy lined a single into centerfield, putting runners at the corners. Bryneal Hoskie connected with a run scoring single into right centerfield. Page put the fire out, getting the final two outs of the inning.

The Wildcats added one run in the third inning. Myren Hoskie was hit-by-pitch. He scored on a single by Bryneal Hoskie, giving Chinle a 2-0 lead after three innings.

Chinle rallied in the fourth inning, as the Wildcats sent 10 batters to the plate.

Nelson Lynch cracked a two-bagger into the right centerfield power alley. Joshua Tullie reached first base on a walk. With two outs, Chinle scored a pair of unearned runs, Lynch and Tullie, on a throwing error.

Wildcat Anthony Yazzie, who reached first base on a throwing error, scored when Myren Hoskie lined a RBI single into rightfield, scoring Yazzie. Chinle added a pair of runs, when Chinle cleanup batter Bryneal Hoskie delivered a two-run single into centerfield, capping a six-run fourth inning.

Bryneal Hoskie cracked four hits and Jayden Guy had three hits to pace Chinle.

Page's Kimball Begay had two hits and Colin Whitehorse added one hit for the game.

Second game

Page 4, Chinle 2

Chinle held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The Sand Devils tied the game, 2-2, scoring two runs in the third inning. Page  crossed the plate once in the fifth inning and sixth inning.

"The team's hitting and defense looked good, but the scattered hits failed to produce runs," Kimbrough said.

Page had nine hits, including a towering home run by Colin Whitehorse. Cheyenne Richardson and Ezra Larson both recorded a pair of hits. Ian Lane and Kimball Begay both had one hit.

Jake Guy and Jayden Guy both had two hits for Chinle. Bryneal Hoskie, Jermaine Jones, Joshua Tullie and Anthony Yazzie had one hit each.
